That’s how much it cost in April of 1965, according to that month’s North Palm Beach Library newsletter:
“The public is invited to visit the Library any day this week during Library hours. A special invitation is issued to those who do not have a Library card. Why not celebrate National Library Week by coming to see us in the beautiful Old North Palm Beach Country Club dining room and receiving your borrower’s card? They are free to residents of North Palm Beach and $1.00 per year to non-residents.”
FYI: Today, in 2013, those living outside of Palm Beach County must pay $15.00 per year for a library card. As far as inflation goes, that’s not a bad price! It just goes to show that libraries are still the best place to be.
